While golfers can play at their own pace when playing alone, it is important to follow the rules of etiquette when playing in a group. When it comes to pace, a good rule of thumb is to keep up with the golfing group ahead of one’s own group. To help with this, players should pay attention and be prepared to play when it is their turn. If a player needs extra time, he or she should invite another member on the team to go ahead. In the case of a lost ball, playing a provisional ball avoids delays. However, there are occasions when delays occur. If a group expects it will delay the group that follows, the first team should allow that group to play ahead, regardless of the quantity of players on that group.
